Reeling Revs hope to right ship vs. San Jose

05/14/2010 -
Foxborough, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New England Revolution host the San Jose Earthquakes at Gillette Stadium on Saturday in a battle of two Major League
Soccer clubs heading in opposite directions.
Since the two sides met in a league fixture on April 17 - a 2-0 Earthquakes
win at Buck Shaw Stadium - San Jose is 2-1 and the Revs are 0-3-1.
San Jose (4-2-0) is coming off is second consecutive win this past weekend, a
4-0 effort against the Eastern Conference's current leader, Red Bull New York.
'Quakes midfielder Bobby Convey led the effort with three assists.
"Bobby is playing some of the best soccer of his career right now," San Jose
coach Frank Yallop told mlssoccer.com. "And I can't say enough about his
effort [vs. New York]."
"[The New York win] was a total team effort," Convey told mlssoccer.com.
"We've got a great system, great players, and guys who are finishing chances
off. It becomes a lot easier for me when guys are making great runs and
scoring - I'd rather pass than score."
New England (2-5-1), on the other hand, suffered its fourth loss in its last
five league fixtures at Columbus, 3-2 this weekend. A late goal by Robbie
Rogers proved to be the difference in a hard-fought game.
"It was hard right there at the end, that's a rotten way to lose the game,"
New England coach Steve Nicol said after the game. "In the space of two or
three minutes we nearly won it and we ended up losing it. We couldn't ask for
anything more from the players. They played some decent football at times, as
well."
The Revs did get two goals from rookie striker Zak Boggs, a positive for a
team with injury concerns all over the field and searching for consistent
offense.
"He has done fantastic," Nicol said. "His second goal was a finish anyone
would be proud of, I don't care what league you're playing in. The first one
he got a bit lucky, but the second one was a great move, a great goal. And he
nearly got his hat trick at the end from a great shot that just drifted right.
He had a great performance and if he continues to put in shots like that he'll
be fantastic for a long time."
New England could be without defenders Kevin Alston and Cory Gibbs because of
lingering leg injuries, while forward Edgaras Jankauskas is also questionable
with a hamstring. Darrius Barnes, Emmanuel Osei, Matt Reis , Taylor Twellman,
and Mike Videira are not expected to be available with injuries of their own.
San Jose could be without forward Eduardo, while Steven Beitashour, Arturo
Alvarez, and Ike Opara are all questionable with knocks.
