Hawks continue homestand vs. Rockets

Basketball Betting Lines

02/23/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Hawks play the middle portion of a three-game homestand this evening when the Houston Rockets invade Philips Arena.

The Hawks enter the tilt five games out of a playoff spot after being downed by the San Antonio Spurs, 103-96 on Wednesday. Joe Johnson scored 30 points and Zaza Pachulia had 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who have dropped two straight and three of four.

Atlanta, which is 9-16 as the host this year and will wrap its current stand Sunday against Phoenix, made a small move before Thursday's trade deadline when it acquired guard Anthony Johnson from Dallas for a second-round pick in the 2007 draft.

This will be Johnson's third stint with the Hawks. He played for Atlanta from 1998-2000 and again during the 2000-01 campaign, and has averaged 3.6 points with 1.8 assists in 112 games for the franchise.

Johnson played 40 games for the Western Conference-leading Mavericks this season and averaged 3.8 points with 2.0 assists in just over 14 minutes. He was acquired from Indiana in a June 24, 2006 trade.

The Rockets, meanwhile, play the first of two straight road games tonight. The club was last in action on Wednesday when Tracy McGrady scored 32 points and dished out eight assists as Houston topped the Miami Heat, 112-102, in Pat Riley's return to the bench for the Heat.

Rafer Alston added 20 points and six assists and Juwan Howard had 15 points for the Rockets, who began the second half of their season with their third win in four outings. Shane Battier had 12 points and Bonzi Wells added 11.

Houston is currently fifth overall in the Western Conference, but is 10 1/2 games back of Dallas, which leads the Southwest Division. The Rockets have won five of their last seven road games and will play in Orlando on Sunday.

The two teams will meet for the second and final time this season. Houston took the first matchup on December 29, 94-68, behind 31 points by McGrady. The Rockets have won three of four overall in the series.

However, the home team has won six straight.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
