Celtics pull out OT win versus Portland in Garnett's return

Basketball Betting Lines

01/22/2010 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ray Allen made just 3-for-14 from the field but hit the go-ahead three-pointer in overtime, as Boston edged Portland, 98-95.

Kevin Garnett returned to the court and posted 13 points and four rebounds in nearly 30 1/2 minutes for the Celtics, who went 5-6 in his absence.

Paul Pierce logged 24 points before fouling out near the end of regulation, and Rajon Rondo chipped in 19 points, nine assists and six boards in the win.

Andre Miller ended with a game-high 28 points to go with eight assists and eight rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who had won three of four coming in. Martell Webster and LaMarcus Aldridge each netted 19 points in defeat.

Brandon Roy sat out due to a nagging hamstring problem, and his replacement in the starting lineup, Jerryd Bayless, suffered an ankle sprain in the third quarter to add to Portland's growing list of injuries.

Rondo's putback of a Garnett miss had Boston on top, 89-81, at the 4:43 mark of the final stanza. Miller answered with a basket and a three-point play to pull within three, and Webster followed a Rondo make with a three-pointer with 1:45 remaining for a 91-89 game.

After Rondo missed a routine layup, Webster hit a deep deuce to tie things with 34.2 seconds left. Pierce was short on a short jumper and was called for a charge -- his sixth foul -- after Rondo hustled for the offensive rebound on his initial miss.

Portland called timeout with 1.1 ticks on the clock, and Kendrick Perkins got a piece of Aldridge's alley-oop attempt off the inbounds pass to send the game to OT.

Miller, who took the charge on Pierce near the end of regulation, hit a go- ahead basket, 95-93, with 1:51 to play in the extra session.

Portland missed two chances to pad the lead, and Allen dropped in a three- pointer from the right wing with 41.3 seconds to go. A long rebound off an Aldridge miss led to a Tony Allen dunk in transition the other way.

Rudy Fernandez missed a contested three to tie and rushed another attempt after the ball was tapped back to him, ending the game.

Boston scored nine of the final 11 points of the first quarter for a 30-25 edge, and an evenly played second frame ended with the Celtics up 55-50.

It was still a five-point game after 36 minutes of back-and-forth action, as the hosts clung to a 74-69 cushion.

Portland took a brief lead when Miller hit a layup for a 77-76 game, but Pierce and Rondo followed with back-to-back buckets for a three-point lead with 7:27 to play.

Game Notes

The Celtics have won six in a row against the Blazers in Beantown...Aldridge also had 10 rebounds...Bayless had 12 points and four assists before exiting...Ray Allen ended with nine points...Boston's Rasheed Wallace logged 14 points against his former team.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
