Daric Barton doubled with one out in the first, moved to third on Ryan Sweeney's single and scored on Suzuki's base hit for a 1-0 A's lead. Rob Johnson tied the affair with a one-out solo blast to left in the third, but the A's came right back to score two on Cust's two-out single to right in the bottom of the frame. Sweeney and Suzuki scored on the play after reaching on back-to-back one-out hits. Seattle tied the game in the sixth. Chone Figgins led off with a double followed by a Franklin Gutierrez walk. Both advanced a base on Jose Lopez's flyout to left and scored on Kotchman's single off the wall in right. Kotchman was tagged out trying to reach second on the play. The Mariners took the lead in the seventh. Josh Wilson singled and stole second. After consecutive outs and an Ichiro Suzuki intentional walk, Figgins lined a single to left to plate the go-ahead run. But the A's rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Sweeney singled off Kanekoa Teixeira, moved to second when Kurt Suzuki was hit by a pitch and scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff's single off Sean White. After Cust struck out, Eric Chavez nailed a sac fly to deep center for a 5-4 A's edge. Seattle tied the game at five in the top of the eighth as pinch-hitter Mike Sweeney drove home Ken Griffey Jr. with a one-out sac fly off Andrew Bailey. A shocker: Within days the Pats announced they'd be sponsoring the Massachusetts state lottery, the Skins said they'd slap their sticker on Virginia scratch-offs and the Ravens admitted they were talking to Maryland lottery bosses. In all likelihood, it won't be long before every team is a presenting sponsor of scratch-offs or just plain old pick fives. "The change in policy was approved 32-0," said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello. "So you can expect to see more deals soon." It's a branding opportunity too big for the owners to ignore, and one a couple of dozen baseball franchises have enjoyed for years. The fact the NFL has been slower to act than those slack-brained Seligites is indicative of its complicated relationship with all forms of gambling.
